A Few Words about Alkaline Foods
I know that this can be kind of confusing for alkaline diet beginners this is why whenever I talk about the “alkaline diet” or “alkaline foods”, I feel like starting with a few facts:
- When we say “alkaline foods”, we don’t refer to the alkalinity of a food itself but the effect it has in our body after it has been digested. All we are interested is how foods affect our pH levels after they have been eaten not before.
- About 90% charts and information on the alkaline diet and alkaline foods you get on-line are inaccurate. Why? They focus on alkalinity of a food in itself or they use something called the PRAL method. They basically burn the foods first. The burning process burns away yeast and sugar- and these always have an extremely acidifying effect in our bodies. Foods that are high in sugar and yeast are super acidic. This is why many health coaches praise some fruits as highly alkaline, whereas most fruits are actually mildly acidifying. Again- wrong method and wrong information.
- The charts that I use are based on Doctor Young’s research. He has really revolutionized the world of the Alkaline Diet and what he teaches totally makes sense to me. He has spent many years doing numerous tests and research. He focused on determining the effect of foods in our body. This effect can be highly alkalizing, moderately alkalizing, neutral, moderately acidifying or highly acidifying. In this post, we are going to focus on the most Alkaline foods ever (again, even though we commonly say “alkaline foods” we actually refer to their effect in our body).
